Foster Brooks really was one of a kind. Every now and then, I'd just dig something up on YouTube and he would play the drunk guy absolutely flawlessly. I mean, he was brilliant. And, from what I've seen, I think everybody couldn't keep from getting in stitches.

I doubt it very seriously, but it would still be very funny. His act back then is still way better than a lot of the peeps out today.

According to his daughter, he did not drink. I remember him on the Dean Martin roasts and occasional cameos on various 70s variety shows and my mom told me that he did not drink. I don't see how anyone could be that drunk and perform successfully as he did.

He made several appearances on ADAM 12as a drunk, and at least one sober.

Later on, he did a PSA to encourage people not to drink and drive

In all honesty, he was one of the few consistently funny comedians on the roast circuit at the time. There were many gimmick comedians who missed more than they hit, and a Roast was like a whos who of Hollywood Has-beens, but Brooks was always good for laughs

Huh. I had almost posted here recently that I had thought, for decades, that he was an alcoholic and had stopped drinking, and that that was the basis for his act. I wasn't sure, though, so I didn't post.

I, too, had heard that Dino's drinking was highly exaggerated (by himself, as part of his persona).
