Yeah, but it sucks when some rappers think since the people you listed did it, they can do it too. The people you listed can definitely act, but guys like Ja Rule, DMX, etc need to stick to rap. Actually, Ja Rule just needs to quit because he can't rap either.

Nah, I disagree....whether I like thier style or not...I think every human should do what ever they want...(within the context of talent)...

Just because one is a rapper or rocker, doesn't mean they have to stay inside that box just because someone else doesn't think their 'good'...

I say go for it, and let the revenues from the movie decide if casting directors want to use you in the future...

I mean look at Arnold Shwatswhatever...from brick layer, to body builder to cheap B movies, to mainstream box office hits, to governer...that's following your dreams and never letting go....

I'm guessing Seth Rogen never had any formal training.

Here's the new paradime...

In that new movie 'Paranormal Activity'....were they acting? or were they just reacting?

I mean, in real life, do people act?
When you go to work and interact with co-workers, are you acting? or being yourself?

The only time one should 'act' is when their trying to mimic the behavior of another induvisual...

If I directed a movie, no one would 'act'...I would simply want them to face the situations in the film as they would in real life...

And have real 'imperfect' dialogue between each other....

Tommy Lee Jones I don't think ever had any acting experience in high school or any training like that.

I think we're all capable of putting on award-winning performances.

Hold a million-dollar bill in front of the eyes of anyone, snap the orders, and you'd be surprised over the performance of someone with no formal training.

For a million, and a director said Cry on cue, I'd cry! Or laugh, on cue! Or shoot someone, on cue. Bang-bang-bang!
Or feign making love to an ugly, elderly actor or actress, while thinking of how I'd be spending the million after completing a prostitution act like that.

But, even with talent, you still need to have the right contacts. Having read hundreds of bio's of movie stars, I'm well-capable of reading between their legs, oops, I meant between the lines.

Talent in the Director's bedroom will definitely get you started, whether you be male or female.

In the majority of cases, when I see a male or female star, particularly the ones with little or no talent, I will continue to wonder: Who did they go to bed with to get to where they are today?

Acting is not something you need formal training to enter. But experience is what helps someone learn the ropes.

It's very challenging. Try learning a ten minute monologue exactly, word for word, and delivering it with conviction. No "uhs' or "ums" or pauses as you try to remember the next line.

Movies are not only tightly scripted, they even have storyboards that very specifically outline every scene, almost second by second.

Sure, you and most of the public thinks it's easy, but you have no idea until you have actually done it. Or tried and failed.

Having said that, there is the visual element as well. If you have a stunning appearance (not necessarily young and pretty) and a magnetic presence, you may get a casting director to let you do thirty seconds to see if you fit.

Believe me, it is not easy to break in without experience or credits. Those are the things that will show you have the ability to show up for rehearsals on time, learn your lines quickly, take stage direction and work with others.

Talent helps too.

Take a look at Jack Cutmore-Scott who takes his first professional role next week: http://arts-america.blogspot.com/201...ott-about.html

I believe both John Wayne and Clint Eastwood both started out as stunt men and went straight into acting without any formal training.

Maybe Mark Wahlberg (formerly "Marky Mark"). He rapped, and "acted" in his videos, but did he ever have formal training?
He's a danged good actor.
