Band vs. DJ
Getting away from all the gloom and doom we usually discuss here,
I was curious as to what everyone's oppinion is when it comes to having a band or a DJ for an occassion...
Wedding, bar/bat mizvah, graduation party, block party, funeral etc...

DJ, usually cheaper and more likely to be good. We were thinking of a band for our wedding, our friends had one and they were awesome. Lively got the crowd involved everyone loved them. Almost double the cost than the DJ and we had to feed four more people.

It depends on the DJ. I used Starlight Express for my wedding and everyone just loved them. If they play the right music, they are great.
I think a band is more classy as long as it's a great band. I went to a wedding once and the band was terrible! My friend who is a pianist and a music teacher said if they paid more than $200 for the band they got ripped off.
Seriously, it depends on the dj and band. I think a band is more classy as long as it's a great band and those usually cost $8,000 to $10,000.

I had my wedding 3 months ago and had a dj with live percussion... It was the best of both worlds IMO without being pricey!!

If we give you advice, will we be invited to the party?

Nah, no party. The party budget went towards my mortgage this month.

There are lots of great bands out there - more than years ago - but it's still too much of a pain to go see the band and then make sure the same personnel show on your wedding day (or whatever your celebration is). We had a DJ and it was great...people wouldn't leave at the end of our wedding, LOL.

Most DJ's these days are playing a lot of rap & hiphop. I find bands do more of the older cooler stuff more people know & like.
