Watched the Hitchcock thriller last night on an TCM tribute to Janet Leigh. I have long wondered if Hotel California was an homage to the Bates motel. Anybody know what was the inspiration for the song?

Hotel California (song - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Really interesting write up on it actually. Multiple thoughts on it.

It's always struck me as a sort of 1970s L.A. take on "House of the Rising Sun."
