SOOOOOOO tired of it! Important political and international stories have been pushed aside for an entertainer of questionable judgment and (in my personal opinion) morals.

He was a talented, handsome performer in his early years. But after about '89 he became the skin-bleached, freakishly self-mutilated monster who liked to sleep with prepubescent boys. His time to be admired passed about twenty years ago

Default "News Hour" on PBS gets it right...MJ takes the back seat!!!

Kudos to "The News Hour" on PBS! They went straight to the important world news tonight. Started with Obama's trip to Russia, broke down the meetings with Medvedev and Putin, then ethnic strife in western China, then the Dow being way down, etc, etc...All this before we had to hear about the overblown, pretentious, and tacky "memorial service" for a drug addicted, mentally ill, once-upon-a-time has-been pop star who hasn't been a musical force for about 15 years!

CBS , ABC, and NBC news, of course, devoted essentially their entire half hour to MJ. They really understand what's important in the world I guess.

True. In the last several weeks we've lost Ed McMahon, Karl Malden, Farrah, David Carradine, boxing great and politician Alexis Arguello, college and NFL football great Steve McNair, and TV infomercial pitchman Billy Mays. I'm sure I missed someone. And in my opinion, the deaths of Arguello(suicide?) and McNair(murder?) have more "tabloid power" and mystery than MJ's.

And what about former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara? He means more to history than all those others combined!

I was around when Elvis died. While there was a lot of hype and hysterical people filing into Graceland, this may be worse.

What's making the MJ hype worse is that there is now so much instantaneous media forms: texting, cell phones, internet, 24 hour cable news. None of this existing back in 1977, and wasn't as prevalent when Princess Diana died in 1997. (think it was 1997)

Unfortunately we will be hearing more.....

I am and I'm also tried of hearing self-centered comments made by the media about why everybody in the world should and must fall in love with Obama personally. I'm as liberal as one can possible get and I support Obama. Though I'd like to think my support for Obama is based more on substance of his policy than his lofty rhetoric, which I appreciate but don't think it deserve the applaud it receives. And I'd like to consider myself sane enough to not believe that the world should and must revolve me and people I think the world should and must revolve around. Recent articles on NY Times and Washington Post, arguably two of the most influential newspapers in this country, really left some bad taste in my month. According to them, German Chancellor was suffering politically because of her refusal to follow Obama's economic policy in lock-step. Putin was tilted against in so called "international power struggle in Kremlin" because of the mere utterance of one sentence unfavorable to him by Obama, of course, Iranians protest was less of a reflection of bottled up social tension and internal power struggle among Iranian elites than a result of so called "Obama effect", and Russians' less than enthusiastic reaction to Obama's 2 days visit was an sign of their deeply ingrained cynicism as a result of living under a less than fully American style political system for too long, by the same token, I can accuse you of being genetically deficient just because you don't like "the greatest literature genre, detective novel", which is loved by me. Everything has to be about ME, ME, ME, if you don't like what I like, you must be either brain-damaged or morally corrupted or indoctrinated with false ideas which render you incapable of appreciating the greatest thing in the world whose greatness needs no other proof than my telling you so. Geez, the level of self-involvement and totally bubbled-up by people from the full range of political spectrum, from the peacenik to warmonger, is mind-boggling. Seriously, why can't anybody just treat a human being like, a human being. And where does the urge to spin everybody into either a semi-divinity whose mere presence could reduce global hunger or a devil reincarnation whose stares could result in global disaster come from?

I'm certainly tired of hearing about MJ. I have no problem with his fans paying him all the tributes they want and some of the stuff about him might still be somewhat newsworthy (pending toxicology results, custody of his children, etc.). But let's face it, most of the coverage is simply repetitive overkill so I say enough already! Like some of you said above, there are other major news stories both here and abroad that merit more attention. I knew the media had reached unparalleled heights of insanity when I saw a report yesterday about Obama's visit to Russia when he visited with Putin for the first time. The network I was watching spent about 10 seconds on that and then went right back into the non-stop MJ coverage.

I'm not very religious, but what we saw today with Jackson and what we saw in 1977 with Elvis and in 1997 with Princess Diana looks to me like what the Bible warned against as "idol worship".

Michael Jackson was an icon with influence reaching far beyond an entainer like Elvis (no offense to his fans)

I am sure that to those who lack an appreciation for certain genres of music can not relate but the beauty of MJ was that he transcended the narrow categories of pop, rock, r & b, gospel, urban contemporary, etc. His influence is evident in the majority of artists today whether they are white/black/other....he influenced the way music sounds today. He influenced the showmanship of a multitude of entertainers today, even country artists.

Michael's appeal and musical genius is not limited to East Coasters, West Coasters, Southerns or Northerns....his gift was recognized around the world!

Snippy people are quick to sit at their computers and wrote crude little comments but there is no denying that if Michael Jackson was not the icon that he was the coverage wouldn't be there.

If you are tired of the coverage, turn off the TV and log off your computers because the WORLD is appropriately mourning the loss of greatness and celebrating his life.
