Hey all, my family and I will be moving from out of state for work to either Eugene or Springfield. Does anyone have any knowledge of or experience with moving from out of state and what the deposits will possibly look like? Do they base it on our credit? Do they look into how our utilities looked in our previous city? Thanks for any replies

Most of the electric companies in oregon will accept a faxed form from your current electric company stating that you always pay in full and on time. I can't remember what that form is called, but your utility company will know how to do it.

Other than that, deposits are based partly upon your credit and partly upon what a typical winter electric bill runs.

Most water companies have a standard deposit amount that everyone pays, but you will have to ask the water company you will be using.

It's been so long g since I hooked up natural gas, I can't remember.

Propane and heating oil, you must pay in full as the truck is unloaded

We have moved from state to state several times, different states... and twice to Oregon. We've never had to pay any kind of deposit. But we do have good credit and we always pay our bills on time, so that may be why. You could always call EWEB or SUB or whoever it is that serves the area you will be moving to and ask them for more info.

Thank you for the tip, I think that's what I'll do so we have a good idea of what to expect.

My understanding is that they use a credit check. Pass the check and no deposit is required, as others have indicated.

If you don't pass the check you should have the option of making a deposit OR getting a 'co-signer' on the account. Don't recall if the co-signer has to be a current subscriber or just have good credit generally.
