I will be moving to Eugene Oregon. I want to live convenient to work - I will be working at the University. I would like to rent an apartment of two or three bedrooms - with modern features and closed to a gym in a good neighborhood. Any suggestions about location and price?

I am planning to move sometime in August. I like to work out and jog.

Sorry - I guess no one is responding because you can google and find what you're looking for. There are tons of apartments and rentals and condo's and etc. in the University area. Eugene is not that big of a city - Google maps is a good tool. Also U of O does have a housing liason person who should be able to offer you more help if you need it. Good luck with your search!

Thank you Haggard....I see.....I will go for a quick visit this weekend and figure out what you said.

I have a chance to land a position in Portland - would you be able to advise me in Portland?

I'd stay away from West University (Hayward, patterson, Ferry, 11th to 18th streets). It's a college slum.

Perhaps east of the University, or put up with a tiny extra drive and live in the Ferry Street Bridge area (north of river).

We only visit Portland a few times a year, we've never lived there. It would be better to hear from people who actually live there. Personally I think Portland is a very cool town if your tolerance for hipsters and extreme idealists is very high.

You should post on the Portland forum if you haven't already. But be sure to give a bit more information as to the type, cost etc of neighborhoods and rentals you are looking for.

Look at craigslist. If I didn't have pets, I'd be living in an apartment (affordable accomodations but no pets allowed) on Amazon, by Hilyard. The bus takes you STRAIGHT to the U of O in no time at all. A bit noisy from cars passing by on the Amazon but you have the Amazon running trail right there & everything you could want within a 15 minute walk or 15 minute bus ride. A bit longer ride to the mall but... you don't really want to go there, do you? *L*

You could just rent a room until you get it figured out....
