I graduated from the UO with an MBA after moving there from Silicon Valley. I have no regrets and it was a great experience. Now you would be in a very different program so you should examine things carefully. Eugene does not have very large museums so you want to ask what experience you will get. There is a nice, but small art museum on campus.

I would not move there without making one visit. If you are already having a lot of concerns about the U of O, you probably shouldn't go there.

I worked at the Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian for many years right out of graduate schools, and the DC area has some really good museum studies type degree programs. Johns Hopkins, George Washington, and George Mason are three that immediately come to mind. In that part of the country there are ample intern and networking opportunities.

I would choose a good program, not just choose a school, for a graduate degree. My son is a grad student at OU mainly because he wanted to study under a particular professor there, and they gave him scholarship and fellowship money, so it was a no-brainer for him.

I have always been surprised at the lack of museums in Eugene. We have more in Monmouth, Independence, Rickreall, and Dallas, than Eugene/Springfield.

Yep. I just wish I had visited the on campus museum more often. I did really enjoy the cafe there and it became one of my hangouts on campus. My graduate lounge was too noisy and I managed to find a few places that were relatively quiet.

Going to that UO museum, as small as it was, was still very peaceful and relaxing. That reminds me. I need to get back to my local museums ASAP.
