Asheville gets hot in summer, not a college town, not flat...(I lived 8 years in NC)

Santa Barbara California fits all of your requirements perfectly.

I lived in Santa Barbara for eight years and while it's one of my favorite places in the world, it's ridiculously expensive. SB is a beautiful place, the surrounding nature has nothing on the Pacific Northwest. Very very wonderful place though.

In Santa Barbara, you'd be lucky to get a decent one bedroom apartment (likely pretty crappy) for under $1,300. If you want to rent a house with two or more bedrooms you'll not find a decent one for under $2,000. The house we recently found in Eugene that rents for $1650 in a desirable area and would translate to rent for more than $3000 in Santa Barbara.

Fort Collins, CO may be similar. Sunny weather, relatively flat and bikable, foothills and canyons nearby, nice downtown, good microbrews, a river, and a liberal culture is common in the north half of town. Eugene's setting is more beautiful IMO.

Chico, CA.

Nice nature and a very lively fun town. A hippy element like Eugene, but not so dominant or in your face about it.

I second Davis, CA. Nerdier than Chico, but closer to jobs in Sacramento.

I was going to say the same thing, I lived in Boise for 4 years and loved it! It does get cold at night in the winter but other than that it fits your criteria perfect!

What I am failing to grasp is how you can be a fulltime RV'er, yet struggle to find the weather you enjoy. That's the beauty of RV'ing- you change locations to get the best of both worlds!

I love to ski, but I don't like the snow. Can anyone tell me where I can ski in beautiful outdoor surroundings but not have to deal with snow? ;-)

IMnotsoHO, the rain in Eugene is what makes it beautiful and green. Without the rain, you would have hot dusty Chico. Come to think of it, someone above suggested that one already.

Grass Valley is pretty cool, too... and prettier. We also like Auburn. We lived in Rocklin/Roseville for a little while...
