There are a significant amount of Hispanics in Oregon. The older population of them are hard working, wonderful people. I can't say the same thing about the younger generations. Lots of gangs, drugs, poverty. Southern Oregon has always taken the brunt of the Californian population surge, and so the problems are more pronounced there.

You have to keep in mind tha Oregon has tons of agriculture, and Hispanics generally work those jobs.

What are you basing that statement on? I'm a Hispanic school teacher, and half of my students are Hispanic. I have grades and assessment data that say they are just as conscientious and hard working as everyone else.

To the OP, your attitudes aren't welcome here in Oregon.

I'm basing it on growing up in southern Oregon and watching the Hispanic gang and drug activity grow along the same exponential curve as the Hispanic population. It's not something unique to them, it happens with the poorest segment of the population all over the place. As far as your grades and assessment data, I find it unlikely that the children in your class are the ones dealing meth and spray-painting "13" all over everything.

OP, there are pockets of that kind of population in different parts of the state. Most of the Hispanics you meet will be great people, but I would stay away from the Rogue Valley (S), the Hillsboro area (N), and Klamath Falls (SE). Those three places in particular have problems with gangs and drugs. If you're looking to move to Portland, I doubt you'll be disappointed. It's a beautiful city with great people (for the most part).
