My husband and I are considering moving to Oregon--maybe Eugene, maybe Corvallis or Junction City and would want to rent. How difficult is it to find a rental (in a good area) that would allow a large dog and 2 cats?

There are plenty of rentals in Eugene that allow cats and dogs under a certain weight. I think 40 pounds is usually the cut-off (so my cats just barely make the cut! lol). And in our experience, cats must be kept indoors only.

Junction City, not much as the new Mental Hospital is creating jobs but no new housing. Corvallis, not a chance. Less than 1% vacancy including apartments.

We live in JC, hard to find rentals to begin with that don't cost a fortune, most places we came across take pets. We got lucky with a 2 bd 1 bath place that accepted critters, no real yard to speak of but the cats don't stay in a yard anyway and our dog recently passed away. Only about 700sq ft of living cost about $680. I have noticed most rentals are at closer to 900. Good Luck!

They just raised our rent: $1300. (!@#$%@!) for a 3 bedroom townhome rental that allows two pets under 60 pounds. Dogs must be kept on leash at all times and cats must be kept indoors. We also have a huge garage and a bit of a yard an indoor laundry room, nice views, and I love my kitchen.

I should say, too, that our rent is really high because of the area we live in... we're on the same street with UofO football coaches and doctors and such... million and half-a-mil $ homes. So it's a very nice neighborhood.

Part of the raised rent was due to EWEB (water, electric, gas) raising their rates and we do not pay for water - it's part of our rent. Also, part of our rent goes towards HOA fees, recycling, trash, etc.

I'm sure, at least in Eugene, you could find much more affordable rentals in nice areas which allow pets. In fact, we used to rent a two bedroom over by Gilham elem. school which allowed pets and the rent there was $705.

You can always find dumps in Eugene (or anyplace for that matter). Watch out for the Rental Application Scams in the Eugene Springfield area. One rental and a hundred apps all paying a non refundable $50.00 fee. When you are told it was rented, ask to see the background check you paid for immediately. If they tell you to come back, check the date it was ran, and if it was after they told you it was rented, or you did not qualify, go to the District Attorneys office and file a complaint Also contact the DOJ in Salem.

That is great advice! Thanks for the heads-up.

well it has been awhile since I posted, truth be known I lost my sign in and password! But found it today. We moved from Oregon march of this year (2014). Back to Texas we came! back to the same lil town we left and a lot has changed in 4 years! I will say that we are disappointed and wish we had not left Oregon in such a hurry, I did have a great job op here, but it was with very shady people! That being said, I no longer have the job and in this town of 1300, if you don't have work you can't survive. I hope everyone else is doing well!
