Default Social Work Jobs in Eugene

Hi am looking to relocate to Eugene, Oregon. I am currently a Master's level social worker in Wisconsin. What is the job market like there for social work in the child welfare field? How long can I expect to land a job? I have been applying for jobs here and there that I am highly qualified for and not getting any response! Any help would be appreciated.

There are probably 200 MSWs in Eugene looking for a job. You won't get a job unless you are there. The typical job track is to take an entry level job or do volunteer work until something opens up. That could be 1 to 3 years, depending on where you hitch your wagon.

Default child welfare social work jobs

Hmmm.... I know unemployment is high in Eugene, but I find it hard to believe that there are 200 MSW's looking for a job at any given time. Especially considering there is only one MSW program in the whole state and no BSW programs as far as I can tell. Here in Wisconsin the job market is obviously better, but we have 3 large MSW programs and about 6 BSW programs and there are still plenty of jobs to go around. Some are harder to get than others, such as hospital positions. In child welfare you can always find a job, even will all the new grads every year. I would like to hear from someone who works specifically in child welfare and get some more opinions. Thanks!
Rachel
