My Mom wrote a book. She is loosely related to Eugene Skinner (Through Charley), and the Huff's, and Phelps. Eugene is a nice city. Peacefull for some, not so much for others.

It is possible to find a job in Eugene. I just recently found one. You just have to keep at it. You also cannot be picky. I had been a stay at home mom for 10+ years moving around the country following my husbands career. No college degree, either. And I don't know anyone as far as networking goes. So no friends to put in a good word for me or help me get a position anywhere. Believe me - if I can find a job in Eugene, anyone can! Perseverance and patience pays off. I'm proof of that. Start with temp agencies or seasonal work if you have to, or just join that eugene jobs dot net website and also check the city job listings. Volunteering is also a good way to network and get a foot in the door somewhere. Holidays are around the corner - look for places hiring up for the holidays... if you do well they might keep you on after the holidays. I have heard that Carnival Cruises is always hiring in their call center but that's one place I actually didn't try so I don't really know for sure about that. You can also register with the state and the city to be notified by email when there are openings. The school district websites are also good places to check out for jobs, as well as the Register-Guard classifieds and Craigslist. I found my job on Craigslist, actually.

OP - glad you love Eugene. We love it, too.

HH, you are self -directed and have a brain. Many job seekers are not so equipped.
