Hi:
I used to live in Eugene and miss it. I lived between Eugene and Junction City. Is the Franz Bakery Outlet store still in Eugene? I used to like going there. It has been yrs since I lived there but I still think of the area often. People were so nice to us there.

Franz is gone. Forced out by the UofO Alum. Eugene has trippled in size since I first lived there as an adult in the sixties (Although I was there as a child in the fourties).

There's a Franz Bakery Outlet on A St in Springfield near 4th St I believe. Got lots of goodies! :-) Best prices in town I think.

She is talking about the big bakery that was where the new sports facility sits now.

When we lived near Eugene my kids loved it. In fact one of my kids got on TV during the salmon run! I used to take them down to the river to play in the summer and we would collect the wild raspberries. My hubby built a tree house for the kids in the yard and we had so many wonderful memories. I would like to come back to retire but can't decide on Or or WA. Part of my family lives in WA state and love it, one of my kids is going to college up there. Really, the nicest people live in the PNW. Is not the same down south. Neighbors don't talk to each other and the cost of living is so high. I would take rainy weather over all that and friendly people. I am glad Franz's is still around. I also remember the canned food warehouse in Springfield and our Safeway store in Junction City. The little DMV building in Junction City was never crowded and I remember taking the driver test there We also shopped at the River Rd Market, small family owned and went to the pumpkin patch every yr at the farm on River Rd.

Wow, my thoughts exactly. I spent about 4 years in the deep south and it was an eye opening experience. Definitely do not care to go back.

I spent a small amount of time in Eugene competing in track events and I liked the city as well. I am a big fan of the PNW in general over anywhere else in the US.

I moved from Eugene to Las Vegas in 1984 thinking I would only live here a few years and then move back.

I'm still here.

Long story, but I can't quite leave yet, but I dream of moving back to Eugene.

My Mother's family, (Skinner/Phelps) came to the Valley with Eugene Franklin Skinner way back when. I have left and returned and left and returned so many times I have lost count. I love Eugene, but I don't care much for the local government, many of the people, and most of the change these days. No, I will not be back except for my weekly visits. I don't miss it, but I miss what it was.

When I went back to college at U of O nearly two decades ago, the Franz was still there, and early in the morning, you could smell the fresh bread baking. When I transferred to OSU, that was what I missed most. That and the trains which would start honking as they passed U of O during my 8 AM Multivariable Calc class. Funny, that was many years ago, and the minute someone mentioned The Franz Bakery, it triggered those memories....
