You're right about Eugene being classified as one of the worst places to live for people with allergies. Also, during the summer the grass seed farmer's light up their fields and encase the middle and lower valley with massive amounts of smoke from their field burning. Even people without allergies find themselves with burning eyes, coughing, ext. Not very nice.

Oregon had the opportunity this last legislative session to ban field burning like many neighboring states. It didn't. Very disappointing.

Maybe Portland would be a better choice for me.
I normally would never do this but here it is anyways:

READ any of the 3 books by John E Sarno MD if you want your so called allergies gone for good.

I'm curious how far do you have to get out of Eugene (north and south) to get away from the allergy problems? Does Corvallis have the same problem as Eugene with all of the allergens or field burning? How about Cottage Grove? My very allergy prone son is visiting this summer so wondering if it may be better for him to stay either north or south of Eugene. Thanks.

Allergen are pretty pervasive in the entire Willamette Valley which stretches from Portland down to about Cottage Grove. It's a mild climate with a great growing season so the plants and pollen producers florish. The worst of the allergy season is usually over by the end of June for most of us. Just in time for the field burning. Grass seed field burning and the resulting smoke is worst in Lane, Benton, Linn and Marion counties. Portland usually doesn't have to contend too much with field burning smoke. As for Cottage Grove, it would be farthest south and while I imagine it is out of the worst of the range of the smoke, I'm not sure it would totally escape some effects.

Default Thanks BJ

BJ -

Thanks for the information. My son is coming out the end of June so now he'll know what to be prepared for.
