Default Bend, OR as a potential place to live...

My wife and I, and our two small children (ages 6 and 7), currently live in North Carolina. However, we miss the mountains, and are sick of suburban living... We'd like to move to the mountains, near a nice family oriented ski resort.

Our current home is 4700 sq ft. We want to downsize into something that is not only smaller (around 2000 sq ft), but environmentally friendly.

We need to be near an airport, as I work from home but travel often. We would also like to be in or near a nice town. We're not looking for isolation, but we are looking to get closer to nature. Good schools are a must, as are activities for kids (skiing, hiking, skating, soccer, etc.).....

Would Bend fit our bill? If so, I'd welcome contact details from an interested and qualified realtor.

Our budget is around 500k.

If Bend does not meet our needs, I'd welcome any other thoughts on similar communities.

Thanks!

I think you would have better luck posting this to the main Oregon forum, rather than the Eugene area forum. Eugene is about 3 hours west of Bend. You can also use the Search tool on the main Oregon forum. There are numerous posts about Bend, many specific to questions you are asking.

Bend does seem to fit your bill, except for the airport issue. There is a small airport in Redmond, and you can usually find flights, but they will often connect out of Seattle or Portland. This may or may not be an issue for you.

The RE Bubble has burst in Bend.....Read the Bendbubble2 blog...He's rather caustic but a read thru will give you an idea of what's happening RE & business wise in Bend.....Bend was, and may still be, the most overpriced RE market in the US as per the Case/Schiller index.....Rent & save your 500k...There should be great bargains in the near future....
