Linguistically, I know it is the Netherlands. However I find Dutch culture very different from English culture. What do you think?

I would say The Netherlands is the closest comparison and it isn't very close. The nations in Europe are alot more unique than one would imagine.

Possibly France - whether they like it or not, England has been influenced by French culture since the infancy of their nations. They are next door neighbors, after all.

The question sort of gives me the creeps, but France is most definitely the country that is the most like England.

Maybe Belgium? Those old industrial cities seem a bit like mini-Manchesters to me. But England has a very unique culture I don't think you'd find anything too similar anywhere in continental Europe.

Yeah I can't really think of any place on the continent that is overly similar to England. I could see arguments for all of the ones mentioned above, but I dont think one clearly stands out from the other.

Ireland, NW Germany (Hamburg has a strong Anglo inluence, the Beatles started their carreer there besides Manchester),The Netherlands, Belgium,Switzerland,coastal mediterranean Spain (because of the numbers of British expats), Continental France -especially the NW and SW-, Denmark, SW Norway, Iceland (same Wiking heritage as the inhabitants of the Shetland and Orkney islands)....

Does Gibraltar count as a country? If it does.... that would be the closest you'd get to England. Otherwise, I don't know
