Not Norway for sure. Latvia and Lithuania is similar to Russia, but there are more culture because of German influence. It is something between Germany, Sweden and Russia. For example if you check the history of Latvia, you will find that Latvia was under Germans for couple centuries, uder Sweden, and under Russia quate a long time. So it is something between. If you have a questions about these countries please fell free to send me personal massage.

I've been to Riga, Latvia and took a bus into Estonia to Tallinn. It was July, 2002. Never been to Lithuania, however. To me, Latvia was allot like visiting Michigan's U.P. along Lake Superior. It is mostly a clean, rural country. The Baltic beaches are cold and windy, like the Great Lakes. The county is very quiet. The sun never really goes down in mid-summer. Many rural houses are deep in the woods. Riga has risen in cost since being made part of the EU. Lotsa Finnish take a ferry across the Baltic and simply drink and pass out drunk in the public parks for some reason.

In Riga, Latvia, it's very tough to get a currywurst with mambo sauce.

ive been to lithuania a few times. the men often have roman style noses and wear smart shoes that are long/pointed at the tip .the women usually have high cheekbones and a lot have jet black or striking white blonde hair that is cut straight across the fringe ,a bit 1970 style.the young women are in general Absolutely gorgeous, however they age prematurely for some strange reason with sunken eyes .
hard drinking of vodka is popular with men .its a great place to visit but at times scarey . i asked my friends there what is the common form of retribution (i.e in england if you offend somebody badly-a punch to the face is the result) .apparently in lithuania FIRE is the result - car or house burndown

I think your friends have some kind of problem with exaggerating things quite hard, lol.

Speaking from a latvian perspective
Not to much, we share sympathy knowing how it is to be occupied but it expands to all countries not just ex-USSR . Ireland is a good example from the conversation i had with irish people.

kinship to latvians are mostly with Lithuanians and Estonians, which on sometimes we call our baltic brothers.

yes we have influences from all those countries but underneath it there's something different altogether.

Finns do this in Finland, too, and not just in the parks, but in downtown shopping areas. They go into St. Petersburg by the busload on weekends to carouse.

Lunx, I wonder if there isn't some kind of kinship felt with the Belarussians. According to what I've read, they're genetically Balts with a later Slavic cultural and linguistic overlay. And they seem proud that their pagan traditions have been preserved. Films of their spring rituals and so forth were often playing on Russian TV back in the 90's, I don't know about now.
