My husband, a development programmer, had his employer pay his taxes (he was sub-contracted to Siemens in Asia) but yes, taxes aren't usually taken care of. I stand by what I said in my last post(esp on the last part of it).
They are. I never had to pay any taxes by myself and I can't imagine it to be different for foreigners. Yeah, technically it is taken out of my salary, but the money that is transfered to your bank account at the end of each month is your take-home money, taxes already paid. Don't spread myths here like so many other did in this thread.
I do not think you can deduct the rent. You said the take home pay is 2000 Euros. That already includes health insurance etc. I think you will be fine. Although it might be a problem if you are trying to take care of 4 people on that income and nobody else is working. And what's exactly a "software professional" ? By training? Or College degree ? Maybe your wife will be able to work. There are free day cares or day cares at a very low cost ( maybe 150 Euros a month ).

Why are you so focused on saving money? Yes, I do know, but it sounds like you are trying to save as much as you can to send money home?
No offense, but I think life in Austria will be much, much better. You will have a great time.
Well I had tragedy in my life earlier and that ruined my life.. and all my savings, also I had faced hand to mouth condition. and Being in my country I can not get that stage back so early. and I do have to think of my kid future and his education. so I took this as a challenge and risk to move out of country to make as much as saving as possible so that I can secure his education and future life.
Sigh. If you had been less prone to jumping the gun, you would have realised I meant THE EMPLOYER PAYING Rajendran's taxes. It's you who 's confusing him, not me
Sorry to hear about your tragedy;Rajendran. Maybe you could make a new start in Vienna with your family. Hope you and your loved ones come out of it.

Well, where do you plan on living? You should have the right to Social Security in Austria, and education is free, too. Of course, if you want to move back to India... that's a different story. I don't think moving to another country just to save up money is a good idea. You have to want to move. But ok, since you already got the job - good luck.
BTW. Then it would a a good idea to get a job for your wife, too. Go find out if she can work, and if she can, she should get a job. As I said, day care is free/very affordable.

For what it is worth, it is my opinion that *wanting to save money*,
meaning, putting some of your earnings away for a *rainy day* , is a very sound principle.
That ... , AND *living within your means*, are two of the most important ways of life you can have.
Kudos to the OP to want to do that !!!
BTW, Saving money for a rainy day,
is actually really easy to do in any case,
as long as you set your priorities right.
First you save a certain amount, and then ... you spend the rest.
How ???
Separate your needs from your wants.
When you do that, you'd be surprised with how little you can live with,
or in another way, how much you can do without !
Any other way, and it does not work all the time. !!!
My IT friend saw this from the Monster.at (emplöyment agency) site. Average GROSS entry pay per year : with BA, Euro 33 200; Masters, E 34 700. Higher salary for SAP or Oracle skills. I also heard they paid people who specialised in airline flight schedules a nice cheque. Good luck.

1. Claimate during the period January to May.
2. Monthly Rent for a decent studio apartment in a good locality.
3. I am a vegetarian from India and I would like to cook by myself.
4. What would be the monthly expenses on Electricity, gas, water, Internet etc.
Here you can have a look at the weather of this year. Cold at first, pleasant in late spring.

Frankly, no idea about short-term rental. Also, it varies a lot from district to district. I guess you can find some good deals for €600 per month. I guess you'll have to pay more, though, since you are only staying only for four months. You might find something on AirBnB. Or on one of the student flatshare webpages (depending on your age).

You are free to do so I can recommend the area around Neustiftgasse (7th district). Good area and the Indian community is quite present there.
I can recommend Prosi Supermarket. They have some decent cooked food as well.

Depends on the size of your apartment and the heating system. I once paid €50 for electricity and €70 for heating in a 80m2 apartment occupied by two.

Public transportation? €48,20 for a ticket that's good for a month.
