This is not specific to Catholics at all though. The US is not a heavily Catholic nation.
That's what I'm saying. Most of the evangelists going to 3rd world countries aren't against birth control because the majority of them are Evangelical Christian, not Catholic. Most Christian groups aren't against birth control
Because kids suck.
They suck the life out of you, they suck your money.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I have to disagree with you here. I can honestly say, without any shadow of a doubt, that my children are by far the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life. Plus, there are so many more important things in life than money.
Hope you have a wonderful day

As far as birthrates. It's still simple:
Poverty = More kids
Affluence = Fewer kids
A pretty sweeping generalization but the trend is observable in many areas. Any number of factors can affect birthrates but income is principle among them. Everything follows after that.

You apparently aren't watching the news lately.
Evangelicals seem to hate women more and more.
"Christian" pharmacists won't provide 17 year olds with the morning after pill, or birth control at all.

Good for you.
But remember, no one thinks your kids are special except for you.

Sounds like "we are all equal, but some are more equal", very pseudo-tolerant. Having children is a personal decision and no one should be criticized for one or the other. No one would criticize you for being Protestant over Catholic or Buddhist over Hinduist either. Well, except for a few radicals maybe.

I did not criticize her for any decisions that she may or may not have made. It's not my life, it's not place. Plus, I really just don't care. I simply stated that I disagreed with her opinion and that in spite of that fact, she (and everyone else) still has a right to have one.

No, you did not.
You made personal comments about your impression of me because I don't fall into the "kids are the best thing in the world" group.

Not really. Look at Japan where there is more of a traditioal role for women. Same with Korea.
Countries that are thought to be rather liberal, feminist, "socialist" like Sweden or Norway tend to have higher birth rates than countries like Italy or Spain where many people are strongly catholic.
I think there is a pretty good correlation between wealth of a nation and birth rate. All first world countries experience low birth rates. Availability of contraceptives, feminism as well, careers, no need of big families as a safety net... all that and more has to be taken into account.
Japan's low birth rates is due to the tradition of marriage and how much it cost and how much it has risen over the years along with there chronic unemployment they have had since there economy went to went to hell years ago.
What you are talking about is population stability. And this idea that working age vs. non-working age relies on the assumption that the working age population will actually find work. As real unemployment in most western nations is well above 15%, this is a largely redundant argument.
No its not. The way services are set up in developed countries if you don't have population growth the country will go to hell in a hand basket. That is why quite a few think tanks see a very dark future ahead of Europe.
