I will tell you one thing, Germany or northern europe is not for everyone, if you wanna live in northern europe you better like quiet cities, rainy weather, short summers, lots of rules and laws, stores being closed on sundays and no one on the street after 7pm on weekdays!!!
Sorry if the sexy viking macho gets offended but its the truth!!!
Our shops are open on Sundays. Short summers, that is true, but it doesn't mean we only hide beneath a blanket and hide during winter. We go to the movies, restaurants, visit friends and family, and hit night clubs. It's not like life stops, it just moves inside.

I'll look forward to it. Remember, I'm Finnish, so I can party until 9am.
May be, some people get depresed with German weather, but not me. I don't get depresed when it's cloudy at all - I'm exactly opposite, when it's hot and sunny I strongly wish for cool and rainy refreshing weather. I like some sun, but only as long as it's not hot. I've visited Greece in summer and the weather wasn't pleasant for me at all. Even where I live (I live in Kharkiv, Ukraine) summers are usually too hot for me. I love snowy winters, but German winters are even too mild for me - they're, except the mountains, are usually not cold enough for stable snowpack.
But do you really think people in Casablanca, Bangkok, Napoli and Rio are really all happy and enjoying life more than people in Cologne, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich?
Exactly. I think a lot of these sweaty, dancing, extroverted balls of energy probably go home and think about blowing their brains out just as often as a quiet Dane might. Happiness comes from the inside, it is not measured by how hard you try to convince people your life is a nonstop party on the outside.
Why are German cities so incredibly depressing? Not only are they depressing they're also very dirty and most parts of the German cities are run down and have more graffiti alone then world combined..
So what gives..?
I went to Berlin, Frankfurt & Munich
I regret the trip and it was a massive waste of money..
I highly recommend people who want to go to Germany to actually consider going some place else.. Unless you have a facination with gloomy, depressing, dirty and rude cities..
I could of just waited a bit and would of went to Tokyo Japan and Okinawa islands and then Hawaii.. But stupididley choose Germany!!!
Interesting!
I have visited Franfurt and Munich as well as several other German cities in the last 10 years or so. While any city can have a poorer, more rundown areas, I think that overall Germany does a great job keeping its cities clean. I thought Munich was especially nice, even though the last two times I was there, Octoberfest was going on and the city was swarming with tourists. Other than some very tired, overworked staff at the Hoffbrau House who were a bit grumpy (opening weekend for Octoberfest) I was very impressed at how helpful everyone was. The security, the police and especially the taxi drivers were extremely helpful and friendly.
Also, I have visited Tokyo twice and lived in both Okinawa and Germany. Tokyo in the winter can be a cruel place, with biting cold, freezing rain and strong winds. It has been a while (if 40+ years is a "while) since I lived in Okinawa, but I clearly remember several incredible typhoons (hurricanes) hitting the Island while we lived there.
I understand the comments about Germany being a bit depressing for some people. However, I love it and would live there in an instant.
Ive met happy germans and I met depressed bitter germans... it all goes down to each person, just like I met happy moroccans and I met bitter moroccans.
I agree with you. ^

If all that were true it would still be worth it, i view Germany (as you said) more clean, wealthy and organized, especially compared to the other places you listed.

Apparently not according to the World Happiness Report
^ So they discovered the formula for happiness? Impressive!
I agree that Germany and northern Europe is a depressing and too serious even when it is orderly and clean. I also have my doubts if the Danes are so happy. That kind of thing comes down to the individual.
Well if I could have a one way ticket to Hawaii would probably take it.
I mean cologne is just exploding with sun and strong food tastes, and colorful characters, you couldn't tell it apart from athens
walking around hamburg I felt like I was on a beach in rio de janeiro because of the sun and the voluptuous tanned women and all :roll eyes:
and being on frankfurt is like being in napoli
and berlin = casablanca on the feeling of color and local culture
munchen is colorful like bangkok
If it takes five cities on three continents to exceed Germany, that speaks rather well for Germany, in my opinion.
Also,
Just about every non-German city you mention is rife with corruption, woeful economy, and a population that would sell their left testicle to live in Germany. You cannot live on sunlight, spices, and sexist view of women. (It is not a bad option, though I must admit ;-)

Germany is not bad, but it's not for everyone
in my opinion people are too serious there, everything needs to be taken seriously, too many laws, rules, everything is too orderly, and while these laws work at making society better, I honestly need chaos, color..... this is why I loved amsterdam, Paris, Rome, barcelona (all of that chaos, color, diversity)
Germany is a great place to be if you like places like switzerland, austria, scandinavia (orderly, clean, functional societies where everyone is busy working, producing and obeying the laws)
but if you're a chaotic artistic individual I think its hard to find inspiration in frankfurt am main, or munich for example!

However, Berlin is like Ground Zero for artistic inspiration.
