I'm not asian but I do have a contribution to this post if I may speak for my asian (east asian i am assuming) friends. I have Asian friends or friends of Asian heritage from or living in the UK, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain..they all seem to like there respective homes. Then speaking for many of my Asian-American friends (mostly Vietnamese, Chinese, or Korean) who have travelled through Europe, or even visited me while I was there, all generally had a good experience, not extraordinary from that of a non-asian. I don't mean to assume, but if this question is racially geared at all regarding how an east asian appearing person would be generally recieved in Europe, then I just think it needs to be pointed out that Europe is full of east-asian populations, full of east-asian tourists, and generally populated by well educated and well cultured people (especially in places that would be on the tourist map)...it would be out of the ordinary if anyone gave any special treatment or reference to the fact that someone might be "asian".

I'm half Korean and I went to France, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland about 3 years back and didn't get any type of looks or negative things when I visited. I think Europeans are a lot more open than Americans in some cases.

I only had one minor problem with a guy trying to sell me some La Sagrada Familia brochures. Otherwise, it was a great vacation in Spain. The women in Sevilla were gorgeous! The ones i talked to were very friendly.

You're full Viet right? How was your luck with the European ladies?

In Vietnam there was a couple, Vietnamese man and his French girlfriend, who were now living in France but returned for holiday/to see his family.

Then you had a problem with a Romanian, they are the ones purporting to sell La Sagrada Familia brochures in Barcelona while trying to reach your valuables. They target all tourists, mainly Japanese tourists. Sometimes they purport to be cops to distract and fine tourists. They should put the wall back.

I'm Chinese and I've stayed in Switzerland (study abroad) in 2008 and traveled extensively in Western Europe. Let's just say that Europeans do not have the same strict sense of political correctness as North Americans.. not saying they're more racist or anything.

I've never felt threatened because of my race whether I was in the big cities or the countryside but on many occasions, I felt I was in the "spotlight" because the locals simply don't see many Asians on a daily basis.

I was surprised that France actually has as many people of Chinese ancestry as Australia and even more than the UK!

My wife, who is Chinese, is living in Hungary right now for her job. She's been traveling all over Europe while there, and we've met up in several countries while she's been over there (it's a 2-year posting till she comes back to the US, but I stayed behind since the economy is tough for getting my job when I return).

Anyways - her experience seems to echo yours for the most part. She's never been mistreated or had any negative experience there due to being Asian, but she does tend to get a few looks since it's not as common to see Asians as locals there.
