I don't hate it at all.
There are good places as well as bad places in Italy: in fact I wouldn't put Florence among the best places. IMHO it is too chaotic and "museified". Also it's boooooooooooring.
I simply don't understand the rose-colored vision of Italy, that's all - as an italian, I find it quite offensive.

Why? So many countries churn out myths and rose-colored visions of their country (US, Jamaica, Brazil, Spain, Portugal), but it seems that Italy is in a league of its own when it comes to fantasy-exporting. I figured for an italian it would seem like a good thing. Why is it offensive, because I've heard other Italians being offended by the stereotypes?

I certainly don't mean to attack you, I hope it doesn't seem that way. I am just legitimately curious

Trust me, I really don't have pink colored glasses towards your country.
Before I visited your country (I was in my early 20s) I did. I wanted to go there because I was an undergraduate in Art History. When I finally lived in Italy the reality of Italy smacked me right on my head . The reason I love your country is that I have three degrees, two are in art history and I am a license tour guide so when it comes to culture Italy is a billionaire! I had Italian roommates so I was schooled on the reality of Italy and I lived it for five years, so I know.
Florence can be a little boring, I agree. On weekends I would take trips outside the city and stuff, go to Rome, Venice, etcera.
What are the best places in Italy in your opinion?

Didn't mean to offend you.

Italian

Tourists don't visit Italy or Spain. They visit a world created by themselves after reading countless stupid blogs in Internet.

And yes, you are rigth. Tourists visit the most atrocious places and cities, and they weren't atrocious before their massive arrival they turn it into a atrocious place.

Just a few weeks ago I visited some beatiful cities in Andalusia that I thought were untouched by tourists, but they were there...goodby to good restaurants, free tapas and good food..

Germany without a doubt. I hate Spain, except Barcelona and Madrid.

Germany is behind Italy in Spain in history, according to your list? Makes me wonder how you define history...
