Before somebody posts... red the article.

"remarkably affordable places to vacation"

Just saying. I could already see people going off about how Europe isn't cheap etc.

Dublin is very expensive to live in. Wondering why it's supposedly cheap to visit.

Anywhere can be cheap. But if you want to stay in nice hotels and eat out at restaurants near all the tourist attractions every day then it will be expensive.

It's the gawd darn flights that are expensive. We are flying to France and each fare is almost $1500 from San Francisco.

On the OP's list I would love to go to Brussels, Berlin, Praque and Vienna.

Going to Berlin in a month and found a place to stay for the month of August for only 270 euro. That about 340 USD and cheaper than the apartment I have here!

Berlin is an excellence place in Western Europe to visit cheaply especially if you are young and don't mind youth hostels.

I think another worthwhile place to bring up is the Adriatic Croatian cities such as Split and ****. Beautiful places at half the price or less than Italy would cost. Split also has very fun nightlife during the summer.

Yeah, sleep and eat can be cheap, but the flight price and the transportation kills it all...

Plenty of reasonably cheap cities in Europe. I'd say London and Paris tend to be quite expensive for example. Berlin is pretty cheap. Lisbon, too. Both cities are worth a visit, if very different. Try travelling outside of high season, especially when going to a typical vacation destination. Tell us what you are looking for in a city and we can help you narrow down your search. Cost allone should not be the deciding factor.
