Paris has always been a city with a large immigrant population.
Believing that Paris was homogeneous 50 years ago is wrong.
By the way, the decades with the highest immigration flux in France were the 1960's and 1920's.

It might go both ways, but I never really experienced them to be any more rude than anyone else.
I think this is the case--it's one of Americans' many I-hate obsessions; my experiences with the French tell me that overall they are as pleasant and helpful as anyone else

Wow! And I found them to be terrifically friendly and good-humored.

Right. When about to go to some place where I do not speak the language. I pick up a phrase book and learn "thank you," "please" and "Excuse me, do you speak English?" It really helps.

Yes, the Italians are rude and arrogant. I'm not sure if they are worse than the French though.

I've spent many holidays in Brittany and Normandy, where I found people to be the salt of the earth. Paris is just a huge mega city and almost a culture within itself, just like London is to the UK. Stil, I didn't find Parisians to be rude.

Dragon

You are probably a young person, but believe me, French have gone through heavy changes during the last 25 years or so. Now they are friendly, and the only that are full of "air" are some immigrants.

For example, offsprings of Spanish immigrants or Spanish immigrants themselves won't talk Spanish to Spanish tourists, while many French always try to speak Spanish. I speak French, but it's kind of rusty and they always try to help......but that's is now, not before..

A rather strange phenomena, but Nordaf are friendlier to Spanish tourists that Spanish immigrants themselves and their descendants. I guess they were brainwashed or made feel inferior in the past.

Paris was homogeneous 50 years ago. The great flux was after De Gaulle committed the big treason in Algerie (1962). People that came during the 20's, Spanish, Russians, Polish, Italians, were fully assimilated in one or two generations.
