LOL, I know the feeling. I am from Texas. I want people (especially Europeans) to understand that we do not speak like John Wayne and eat beans and BBQ all the time - nor do we ride horses to work or all love George Bush. We also aren't all Baptists.

We here are very open to tourists - and I'm not sure that one can be TOO open to tourists. We welcome others from every corner of the world - as long as they don't mess with Texas.

But I digress. I would encourage any of my fellow Americans to visit Europe and the UK, with an open mind and an open heart. I have never regretted visiting Europe and I have found the vast majority of Europeans to be friendly (even the French!) - with the exception of most Austrians, who are an odd lot.

But even Austrians have fine music - and lovely Alps. So even Austria is a great place to visit overall.

Religion is no big deal, but your police stations are surrounded by barbed wire and frequently one can see streets festooned with Union Colours/Tricolours or (puzzlingly) Israeli or Palestinian flags.

Sorry Yanks, no leprechauns or potatoes, perhaps, but toothless chavs and binge drinking aplenty.

Don't forget the Bay of Kotor! As beautiful as the north Norwegian fjords! Breathtaking!
