My wife and I are headed to Paris at the end of the week, and we'd like to rent a scooter / moped to tour Normandy and make our way over to Mont St Michel for a day or two.

Does anyone know if there are scooter rental places over there? I've spent a few hours on google and have come up with just one or two leads at this point.

We both just have the standard US driver's license -- nothing for motorcycles, but I think as long as what we rent is under 150cc we'd be fine.

Thanks - this is helpful. I can't tell from any of these websites, but any idea if there are places you can rent in one place (Paris) and drop off in another (Rennes)?

Most of these don't seem like "national rental companies", so I'm not terribly optimistic... but though I'd ask.

I doubt you will find one way rentals for scooters. Also, I think(!) that you may be limited to 50cc so really small and slow scooters (45kph, less than 30mph) without a motorbike license. You may be allowed to drive up to 125 cc depending on when your licencse was issued (In Germany that grandfather rule aplies to regular (automobile) driver licenses issued before 1980, not sure about France. I will ask a friend.

You may want to take the train to Rennes (50 euros one-way per person?), rent something there, go to Mont Saint-Michel/Saint-Malo/etc, back to Rennes, train back to Paris.

^^This. Given your lack of experience (no motorcycle license) you should absolutely NOT rent or ride a scooter in Paris unless you have a death wish.

Here's a place in Rennes that rents scooters:

Moto Passion 35

But even so you'll be faced with a 150 km round-trip ride to Mont St. Michel.

BTW I checked a scooter rental site in Paris and the only scooter you can rent without a motorcycle license is a 50cc. This may not apply to all dealers, so check carefully.

I checked with a French friend of mine and he confirmed that without a motorbike license you are limited to 50cc. Not ideal for cross country touring (to say the least).
