You mean rebel12. OwenC knows Russians. He's a Finn. It was rebel who said Russians are "these strange people from beyond the visa-free zone". He seems to be confusing them with bears. They're both very furry, you know.
No I mean Owenc.
He is from Ireland and apparently he has never seen a live Russian anywhere in his life, in London included.
I was responding to his post -
"I have been to England and the average English cares very little about Russians never-mind Knowing the basic facts about them. I don't think anyone cares about who the buyers of the "Real Estate" are.
As for your Gas pipeline. Well i'm not on Europe so that won't affect me."
That' s how we know now that Russians are not the only Europeans who are not Europeans at all, apparently...
( Questioning whether Russians are Europeans or not is like opening a can of worms as it turns out, lol)
Oh well, may be Owenc can't recognize Russians unless they are wearing big fur hats or playing balalaikas.
Otherwise with more than 500,000 of them in London it's hard to "not to see them" I suppose...
500,000? erm theres only 30,000 in the whole of the UK.
First of all as you can see Europeans are not one big happy family as you are trying to project here, and second - even if Russia preferred to shut the door from the rest of Europe in 1917, it doesn't make Russians to be not of European variety. The Southern Europeans might not be familiar with her culture, but the more North/East you go, the more familiar Russians are in terms of their culture/involvement in European politics.
May be to you as an American history starts from the times of the Cold War, but to European mind history is a much bigger picture and they judge Russian presence in European affairs from a more encompassing point of view. Here is just an example why Northern Europeans might see Russia in a different light than you do;
Most people alive don't look at Russia through the perspective of history books by rather own experiences. To many Russia is that big evil empire which aimed nuclear weapons at European cities, to others country which thwarted liberties in occupied countries of so called Warsaw Pact. To most however Russia is the isolated monster in the cold east.

Well may be you that's how you should have titled your thread- "is Russia an evil empire in the cold East," instead of asking whether it's considered European.
Ronny Reagan might call it an "evil empire," but it still doesn't prevent an evil empire to be of European variety)))

ROFL!!
I was going to make a comment earlier about someone blowing his cover as a Reagan fan, but I held my tongue.
Really? I thought mainland Europeans where all for the identity.
