At the federal level that is certainly true. At state and local levels, political affiliations are a lot more diverse. Also, within the two main parties, there is a lot of diversity.

Out of curiosity, who do you think would have been the "really good candidate" for the GOP, besides Romney? Who would have really sweeped the rug under Obama?

I am far from an expert on either party as I am an Independent. But, from what I have heard, someone like Jeb Bush, Christie, or Huntsman.

Just get it over with, it's taking too long. And it's hard to comprehend why an election every 4 years (not taking into account the mid term elections!), it seems an awfully short span of time for any administration to put its policies into force. Now it's an European point of view, however I'm curious of the answer of Americans to it...

I agree.
I'm an American, and I think that the President should get one six-year term. That way, he/she has enough time to implement what they actually want to and don't have to worry about being re-elected.

Yeah, like Herman Cain, Michelle Bachmann, Rick Santorum, Newt....

American comedy at its very best. Mitt Romney was also a big joke until the Republicans reluctantly came the conclusion that he'd be the only one with a shot due to his handsome face.

I don't understand it either. Forget about his policies, just the fact that he contradicts himself all the time on fundamental issues tells me he can't be trusted. I've followed quite a few elections but I've never in my life seen a politician flip-flop so much. Again, why is he getting away with it? Why aren't the media or at least the Democrats calling him out? If Romney gets elected (which I doubt based on the polls btw) the Democrats are just as much to blame for their inept campaigning.

I posted this video in another thread, a compilation of Romney flip-flops:

The Republican field was extremely poor. Romney was the only candidate they had who was remotely electable (and he might even win). Gingrich was far and away the smartest but he had so many skeletons in his closet that he was also unelectable.

I find it interesting that people like Bush, Christie, Huntsman and even Rice stayed on the sidelines.
