Obviously, given the disparity in obesity rates, people's attitudes about being fat would e different in Europe than in the Americas.

But comparing European countries against each other, are there countries where being fat is seen as more normal/socially acceptable, or countries where it's particularly stigmatized?

You'd think it'd be most acceptable in countries with the highest rates of overweight people but that's not always the case.

It is not socially 'accepted' anywhere - especially American style 'fat' wearing sheets and at 350 pounds plus.

You don't see many fat people in Southern and Eastern Europe but then being very fat in the UK wouldn't be a picnic - good luck in finding jobs and dates.

ireland has an obesity problem , the uk has an even worse one , seems to be much less of an issue in the netherlands and scandanavia

There are plenty of fattos here, but that doesn't mean it is accepted - people are always taking the piss out of fat people.

Depends on the behaviour and attitude of the person. I mean there are typical "fatties" who really act like Al Bundy's customers from the shoe store. (If you know that series)

To what degree do you think obesity is a genetics thing? I know some people who are pretty moderate eaters and get fair excercise, but are always looking like balloons.

Maybe, but it is true that fat is not socially acceptable and in parts of the UK would set you up for abuse, especially if one is as fat as 350 pounds plus..
