I was having the same thought the other day about several British musicians from the sixties having a mediterranean look: Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Ringo Starr, George Harisson, Ray Davies, Jeff Beck, Keith Moon !

In fact most of the bands are filled with mediterranean looking members, the beatles, oasis, black sabbath, etc. The first time I visited the UK I was surprised how many people had quite dark hair, I mean not the type of dark hair you expect of brunette people from northern europe but very darkbrown/nearly black hair. I've had northern european (swedish, danish, dutch, germans) friends who refer themselves as dark haired, but then when I see them I often notice they have more like lightbrown hair/golden brown hair, not that kind of very black/darkbrown. That makes me think that probably brits inherited traits from older ancestors of southern europe.

The Welsh are said to be one of the 'purest' original Briton/Brythonic populations in the Isles. Many Welsh have very dark hair, e.g. Tom Jones, Catherine Zeta- Jones. There's also the 'Black Irish' in Ireland. Dark brown almost black hair and grey eyes seems to be an Irish look.
Britain's tend to be 'darker' on average than other Northern Europeans but there really isn't a 'British look'. Britain is an island that throughout history has been settled or invaded by many different people, its a process that is still happening today, even now an exceptionally high percentage of Londoners are foreign born, the 'British look' is probably still changing - faster than ever!
Dark hair doesn't equate to a southern European look. Dark hair and a darker complexion do. Keith Richards, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, looking south European?? I don't think so.

In general it seems to me that people in England look different from Scots and Irish. Can't pinpoint why. Not just colouring but their features. Blue eyes are very common in Scotland.
No way. None of them look southern European, at least not to me.
