I was surprised to learn there are over 1 million French residents who were born in Asia, with the largest group being former French Indochina, and many who were born in France. I've personally met a young Frenchman who was of Chinese/Vietnamese parentage which was interesting since he was culturally French, spoke English with a French accent, had a French name.

Are most of these immigrants very recent? Would you say Asians in France are as integrated as the ones in Britain or even the US, Canada, Australia.etc?

How are they generally viewed by other French people?

There are usually not really racism against Asians.

Asians are usually very well integrated. Both in terms of economic level (most Asians reach higher education degrees than the rest of the population) than in terms of cultural assimilation and mixing with the general populaiton (many mix with french "ethnic" people quickly.)
I personally have cousins that have Vietnamese mother. This is very common.

In the 13th arrondissement of Paris there is a "Chinatown" (and others in 19th arr and in some suburbs near disneyland). Those "chinatowns" are actually more Vietnamese and south-eastern Asian than Chinese.

I have an Asian friend (Chinese American born in the US) and he said that even though he felt a lot of people accepted him in the economic sense (had an easy time finding a job and all that), it was tough for him to integrate. He said that often, White American women would stereotype him right off the bat and people would often tell him to stick to his own kind. At one point he did date this redhead but he said he heard so many cruel jokes about it that the relationship had to fail. This same friend of mines stayed in Paris later on and said he was almost shocked to see the high number of Asian men with White French wives, he did not think for one second such couples would exist.

Not to mention that one French model was Half Chinese (dad) and half White French (mom). That is what I have heard but maybe the French users on here can tell you better.

I have two friends whose parents immigrated from Vietnam. They're like any other classmates, and indeed have this thick French accent when speaking English. Then again, what accent would you expect from people who were born and raised in France?
As for the Chinatowns, there are also quite a few newly-arrived Asian immigrants in the southern inner suburbs close to the 13th arrondissement, such as Ivry.

My father mentioned that the French recruited local Vietnamese to fight for the French army resistance against the Germans during WWI days, so this is way back. My grandfather's classmates also studied a couple of years in France back during the 1930s, so there were even more Vietnamese living in France with quite a few permanently settled there.

After the Vietcong took over in 75', many immigrated to France, including my father's colleagues. Thus, their children were born and raised in France. The Vietnamese are pretty much integrated though not sure about the Chinese.

Never seen or heard this before. But then again, nothing really surprises me on here anymore. Just like the Indian guy who complained about racism, because he couldn't easily sneak into any woman's pants.
If anything, it's the U.S. that's the most tolerant country.

I hate the word "integration". Most people don't even know what it means. But then they talk about "diversity". You can't have "diversity" and actual integration at the same time.

Why do you hate the word "integration"?

Tolerant? Yes

A minority here has more ways to climb to the top. But liberal socially? Not as much. An Asian man in the US has a strike going against him already for his appearance because the media has hurt his image and women in America buy into the media fast. In France, I am certain they will face less discrimination in dating.

I would say they for the most part are. Unless you are a very recent immigrant. But if born and grew up in the States, the asian is very americanized, even if they live in a chinatown.
