Geggo pretty much pointed it out.

Generally speaking, Bavarian culture is more like "Austrian" culture (in the sense of "Upper Austria" and "Tyrol"; Carinthia, Vorarlberg and Vienna are different) and Swabian culture is more similar to Swiss culture. However, the Swiss are so "unique" and "eccentric" in their behaviour, that they are more of an own 'planet'. Anyways, the areas south of Frankfurt feel all "foreign" for someone who is used to Germany's Northern half.

Yes, it's not just the Swiss. Well, clocks in gen'l, not just watches.

The German clock-making industry has always been centred in the central Black Forest (Furtwangen/Baden, Triberg/Baden and other towns in Baden, Schramberg/Württemberg), Pforzheim/Baden, Schwenningen/Württemberg and Glashütte/Saxony. Bavarians are not famous for their clocks.

You don't think there's a connection here?

Not really, Bavarians (i.e. the Bavarian-speaking people of Old Bavaria) usually feel more at home in Austria than anywhere else in Germany or Switzerland.

Not sure what you mean by "Bavarians". If you're excluding Schwabians, then, yes.

Swabians are Swabians, Franconians are Franconians and Bavarians are Bavarians When people are talking about the Lederhosen-wearing folks in Germany, they usually refer to the latter.
