Which countries prefer the American chains (McDonalds, Subway, Taco Bell, KFC, etc) and which are less crazy about them? Are there fast food chains unique to Europe?

It seems like the UK is highly fond of them, Germany and Italy not so much, France moderately so.

McDonalds is ubiquitous in Austria, Burger King is already kinda hard to find at times. Subway is only present in Vienna, as is KFC. I don't really know about any other fast food restaurants originally from the US.

I guess the most popular fast foods are sausages, döner kebabs or fried noodles from food stalls that you can find on every street corner.

Germany and France it seems are higher in fast food restaurants it than Spain or Italy.. On the other hand it says the UK has about the same amount of McDonalds as Canada....which I found surprising.. not sure of other outlets..

2 burger kings
2 kfcs
Costa coffee

And lots lots more aswell as a massive food court.

McDonalds had two close in the neighbour city which is the major city in the area.
They tried to reopen a few years later, but had to close again in the downtown area to concentrate on the restaurant outside of town, close to the freeway.
I think they also had to close in another city in the area.
Besides 7 Eleven we don´t have any other american chains up here in the north, but I think Subway have been looking to establish themselves.
Our own chains are far superior anyway.

Spain has 442 McDonalds for a population of 45 millions or so, I think. There are a lot of fast food chains and joints, but not American but homegrown. A lot of tapas franchises, sandwich franchises using Spanish bread (pans and company, bocapa, etc), falafel and durum places, "frankfurts" (hot dogs, burgers, sanwiches, Spanish style), a whole lot of Spanish pizza places, pollos a l'ast, etc, etc.

American fast food prospers mainly in touristy places, in tourist hot spots, but they are no match for local competition, much better, healthier and cheaper.

In Belgium, the popular ones from the U.S. are McDonalds and PizzaHut.

But the most popular fastfood chain is Quick (originally Belgian, now French-Belgian).

I think people in Europe are not as crazy about fast food as Americans are. In Spain we have too mane McDonalds, and also Burger Kings, less Starbucks, KFC, Subway etc. I would say there aren't too many fast food European chains, I think I don't know anyone.
