Wait a minute; who was it who was insisting that summers there were awful and rainy, while I was saying they're gloriously sunny? Maybe living in the south isn't as great as it's cracked up to be.
I think Norwegians have become more continental and open-minded in the last 25-30 years due to immigration, frequent traveling, new cuisines, etc. It has less to do with oil and more to do with the general globalization.

The weather in Norway is not very good but the nature is fantastic and it is one of the best places in Europe for winter sports (especially cross-country skiing). Southern Europe can be very gloomy and depressing in the winter, too.

OK, I'll buy this, to a degree. And yes, Norway's scenery is world-renowned, no contest there! Actually, my favorite area is around Kautokeino, because of the Sami culture. It's the one part of Norway where I experienced friendliness on the part of strangers, and I found it all quite interesting. Enjoyed walking around to the different silversmith workshops/jewelers in town, fishing in Maasi, and just hanging around, taking in the culture, and picking up a little language (Sami, that is). And the weather was fabulous. I've been there twice, in fact. Again, great weather.

Someone mentioned Malta earlier and I have to add that a lot of my friends have relocated to Malta and as much as they love the work opportunities and weather there, the same much they complain all the time of boredom.

I've lived in Estonia for many years and I'd say it gets boring quite fast as well.

So these both are rather small places and there is your conclusion - for a better fun choose just a larger city/country.

I could never be bored in any land with mountains and ocean. Citys are ok now and then. People are people where ever you go, the northern / southern difference is overrated.

I'd have to say: with the exceptions of Russia and possibly Canada. IMO what tends to make a place boring is the spirit of the people. If they're interesting and fun, there won't be any boredom. On the other hand, no matter how beautiful the nature, if the people lack imagination, joy-of-life, and interesting pursuits, there's not much that can make the place come alive.

Day to day life isn't all fjords and mountains. If the people lack pizzaz, the place will be boring to live in.

Hva heter "pizzaz" pa Norsk? hahaha!
