I just had a friend who toured all of Europe. I'm not exaggerating, took a whole year off to see everything (except Russia and their former countries in the Northeast of Europe and European islands).

He stated his entire experience east of Italy/Austria/Czech Republic/Poland was a waste of time and money.

I was wondering your thought on this.

I think that there are different likes for different types.

Personally I love Germany, Switzerland, and Eastern Europe. Germany is probably my favorite European country to explore. How anyone could say they didn't find Berlin, or Neuschwanstein, or Berchtesgaden, or Oberammergau, or Prague, or Baden Baden or the Main River drive or Passau or Rothenburg or other areas like that interesting or fascinating or beautiful...well...I just think they must have very limited tastes or preferences.

Well, if we're getting really picky - heck, we're not even talking about Croatia or Bosnia or Hungary or Herzogovina. So you mean Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, the Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Turkey, Latvia and Estonia?

And GREECE. Your friend found Greece to be a waste of time and money????

I wouldn't know - I've never been to those countries. My dad has been to several of them though. He loved Greece, liked Latvia but despised Turkey.

"East of Poland" excludes just about all of Europe outside the former USSR. The only areas left in the "waste of time and money" category would be Finland, the eastern 2/3 of Romania and Bulgaria, Thrace, and almost the entire former USSR.

I personally think there's plenty of value in Estonia, Finland, and European Russia (e.g. St. Petersburg) and perhaps some not-so-nice places in Serbia, Albania, etc.
