Can't speak for Ireland but there is an island mentality of sorts here regarding Europe.

I have never visited Ireland, so I'm not an expert on the subject. But from the people I've met, I couldn't say if they're English or Irish. The accent could probably be a giveaway, but I'm not very familiar with them either, though I probably could single out a Scottish person.
It feels that British and Irish are very well in tune nowadays, they seem to like similar things and have a similar mentality. And they both drive on the wrong side of the road.

That picture with the buses. No way I could have singled out that being in Ireland. Yes, the licence plates maybe, but probably wouldn't have crossed my mind.

Yes of course. A syntax error there.

To be honest with you John for me its the exact opposite! I would prefer for Britain to be out of Europe completely (although I dont include Ireland in this)! I dont 'dislike' Europeans (although the French annoy me somewhat!) and I admire in particular the Germans, Dutch and Scandinavians and I can also understand the benefits of course but I would much prefer it if Britain could somehow be 'towed' to somewhere between Australia and New Zealand or to just off the coast of Canada!! lol. I would MUCH prefer to be more closely linked to Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the USA than I would Europe, I think its because I feel that Britain shares so much more 'culturally' with these nations and it would just be a better 'fit' for us.

the European project was great when it was soley an economic bloc , its become something altogether different , ive nothing against any country in Europe but I know that Ireland is too different from finland and Greece and Italy are too different from Germany or the Netherlands for all to unite under the one umbrella in an economic or political sense

How many times are you going to reapeat his nonsense?? You are not going to convinced anyone here.

You have no idea what you are saying. Just come in a high school in France and you'll see all the young that have union jacks on thir clothes and stuff. You'll see how much they listen to British pop and other things. What french TV and you'll see how much the william/kate wedding had been reported with passion... It is you that have a problem with us, for a reason that you and me know very well, but you'll never going to admit since you try to convince yourself you're living the best place on earth...
I'm not sure many British youngs fly french flags on their clothes and listen to french pop music!... open your mind on your southern neighbour, you have only have those anti-french prejudices that the tabloids are found of towards us.

I don't think I am living in 'the best place on earth' - trust me I don't think the UK is better than France or Germany or Denmark or Italy etc, I think there are some truly wonderful places in Europe (including France) I really do. Like I said before I also admire many Europeans (in fact I was even married to one :-)) I do think though that Britains have much more in common with other 'Anglo' countries in other parts of the world than they do with the Europeans on their doorstep.
