You know what, I'm from a Jewish Family. We lost many beloved ones during the War and the whole Generation of my Grandfather and Great Grandparents suffered in Concentration Camps. So get over your self-righteous attitude! I visited Israel several times and talked to many survivors and their children/grandchildren. None of them showed reactions like you did.
Buy the way...both of my Grandparents were Doctors and took care of many Women and Children (of every age) which got raped, tortured and starved in Camps by Russian and Czech Military! THAT is an almost forgotten part of history.
I did not have a "reaction" - just stated a dislike- Disliking is not hate or hate speech. Yes there were no good guys during this period. To be straight forward- my parents did not hate the Germans...and I do not really give a damn- My point was from a primitive tribal perspective - somethings deserve mercy and forgiveness from a personal perspective - From a historical one - Germany was a monster- As for your Jewish relatives...My mum commented that she could not understand why Jewish mothers were so compliant and would hand over a child to a Nazi without fighting tooth and claw.
My parents were in Berlin during the bombing...The camp was hit...and she escaped- my dad in tow...She managed to get hold of a pistol and went knocking on German doors asking for clothing...She would ask the woman in the house "where is your husband" If the answer was on the Russian front...She took her revenge and imagine that the woman might be the wife of her rapist - so she shot them...My dad had to eventually take the gun away from my dear mother.

No mother would ever "hand over their child". They tried to fight. But I guess you never heard from the Jewish people who fought in the Underground, together with the French Resistance for example. Or the people who tried a coup in the Ghettos.
The nuns and priest who followed Jewish Orphans in the Camps and knew they would get killed too. All the brave people like pastor Bonhoeffer, who strongly opposed the Nazi's, never backed off and got killed a few days before the War was over.

Never visited Germany but spent a lot of time travelling and socialising with Germans here in Australia. I know they represent a certain demographic (more travelled, younger) but what I can generalise about them:
* Tend to be reserved but polite. I never or rarely encountered any rudeness.
* Some tend to want to talk a lot, but aren't flamboyant with 'big' personalities. Most tend to keep to themselves. Also speak German among themselves a lot, which is to be expected.
* At the same time rather direct and sure of what they want. They don't seem flaky and indecisive.
* Not as crazy as the Dutch, even when drunk, but ironically love to party and love dance music (e.g. the Berlin scene).
That's really all I can say. Other than that Germans were individuals just like everybody else.
You would really do yourself and everyone else a favor if you finally overcame your ridiculous emotions which are making you blind to reality. Germans are in no way worse than other people. There is no bad gene etc. Ask the police, biologists etc., there have been many scientific studies on that. There are genes linked to being a psychopath, but the percentage of Germans being psychopaths is not at all higher than elsewhere.
Humans are animals. When someone manages to make one group of humans hate or dehumanize another group of humans, they will do the most horrible things to them. Just think of the former Yugoslavia, there was also a genocide there, with people throwing their victims into huge holes with the use of construction vehicles. Or think of Rwanda. Or think of Brits and Americans simply throwing millions of Africans over board when they became sick during the transport of those slaves across the Atlantic. Not to mention that those who survived the trip were traded and abused like animals. There are many more examples in history.
I know it is easier to think the simple way like you do. But it is wrong. Fact is, Germans are not in any way worse than Americans, Israelis, Brits, Russians, etc. And they never have been. There is that ugly animal side in all of use, luckily most people are never forced or tempted to let it out.

This is what really bothers me about Oleg Bach. He loves to play the victim card with regards to his family. I already told him what his pure hearted Russian compatriots did to my family. One rape, attempted child rape and kidnapping. 2 of my ancestors were military officers before Hitler waged war, as a consequence they automatically became Nazis whether they liked it or not. Lots and lots of people fell into similar situations, it doesn't make them evil. Guilt by association is never a good principle to follow, ever.
So, Oleg, please do us all a favor and rid yourself of your irrational hatred. You call yourself a Christian, no? I think you need to beg Jesus for forgiveness for your unfounded hatred, from one Christian to another
Since we have a mixture of people coming from West Germany and East Germany its mostly direct but some are extremely rude. But those who are rude were born under Russian occupation. I think once the generation born before 1990 dies off, so will most of rudeness. But it may also take a few generations to happen.

The opposite is the case. People from the East are known for being more social, down to earth and warm hearted. They had to help each other during the GDR days, cause it was the only way to have a relatively good level of living. Contrary to the West, where the "keeping up with the Joneses" mentality was more widespread.
Just compare the typical Saxon with a typical Swabian and you will experience the difference right away.
I believe the new generation (Y generation, born with the IT technologies) is more aloof and self conscious . They don't carry the burden of guilt, which I always found very unhealthy and counter productive, and this is a good thing. However they have now the same defects as other young Westerners, British, French or Americans : they seem hollow superficial materialistic and unable to have significant human relationships without their iPods, Skype, Twitter et al...
I am German, both of my parents were born in Germany. They came over as children, they fled Germany before Hitler took control. My grandfather told me, he had heard Hitler speaking to the masses in Hamburg Square and immediately knew that he was nuts and that he had to get his family out of the country.
The irony of the situation is that my grandfather was a front line radio man in WW1, he spoke English as an American and of coarse German. The family got here in the US and he was working as a carpenter (although he was a broker in the old country), he was home one night after work, a knock on the door, it was US military men, they led him off, he was now recruited to be a radio man for the US, who was he fighting...the Germans, back overseas he went, he really didn't have a choice, he was told, not asked. There is a lot more to the story, but suffice to say, he did his duty as an American, and after the WW11, he never returned to Germany.
My family has a wicked sense of humor, we all loved to dance, the women...all had this thing for cooking and baking, me included! We are direct in our conversations, sometimes abrupt, but always courteous, it's like we don't the patience to either say or listen to a long drawn out story.
I lived in the NYC area for many years, some of the rudest people I have ever met lived there, nothing to do with nationality, it was just their mindset,I guess it is the only way to survive the hustle and bustle of their environment.

But people from Saxony are indeed pretty open and friendly. I used to know a Saxon janitor, very friendly and funny guy
