I am not a fan of Italy either, though I have been there a few times.

I recommend going, I think Italy is one of the places people need to see.

It just was not my cup of tea, nothing wrong with the place, but I think my reason is that for one, I have never really been interested in Italian history, and places of historic interest always are more appealing to me; and I had traveled so much before I got to Italy, my expectations may have been too high, or Italy sort of blended into everything else, and given the lack of historic interest, was just "blah".

I do recommend going on the off-season, sure a little cooler, but you avoid the crowds and have a much better experience.

Iceland - coldness is great!
Sweden - visited and would visit again and again
Norway
Denmark
France - been there, best food in Europe (second in the world to Japanese :P )
Italy - I must visit Rome and the Vatican before I die; I'm not a Catholic, but for a Romanian that city has a symbolic value like no other
maybe Spain and Portugal
and then all the rest
