It's not MacDonalds! Why do the Europeans keep doing that?

Simply because McDonald's make junkfood ("malbouffe" as we say), unhealthy, and actually quite expensive for such a low quality. McDonald's is mainly popular among the kids and youngs moslty from low-educated class, and young suburbian people with non-European origins (but also for students who tend to be very influenced by everything that looks "American")
When I was teenager and student a few years ago I did go regulary to this kind of junk food places, and actually back in those times they were seen as somehow "cool" because of the "American-style" concepts. As you get older, have more money, and get more involved into your own cultural background and traditional culinary identity, and you discover that those chains are basically a gastronomical (and health) massive destruction weapon, thanks to the financial power they have they can developp as much they want by brainwashing people by adds. But feel that within a few years they would be completly out of fashion, people began to be fed up to see thosekind of junk food chains everywhere...

Not in the UK.

I go to McDonalds a couple of times every few months and we are not poor, nor am I uneducated when I got 3 B's at AS Level.

In Northern Ireland McDonalds is popular with the following: Young children, Teenagers, Old people. I don't think in Northern Ireland we would stop using them as we get older because really they are the only places where we can go that give you food quickly. I suppose we could go to Subway etc but it is not the same.

It is likely different in Europe because they don't have a McDonalds in every town/ high capacity of McDonalds per person.
