Really? a dead end? multiculturalism is exactly the problem. Every ethnic group is tribal and you CANNOT force people to co-exist. People throughout the world for centuries, and today, STILL want to be with their own kind. That is not racism. That is an innate tendency for survival through what is familiar and safe to them.
I don't want to live in a black neighborhood. No thanks. Why? because it's unsafe for me and my family, because my property will devalue, and because the schools will underperform. It's a fact. Period.
Racist? I hate blacks? Nah. I'm just smart!
Everyone goes to their own kind, which creates walls of division in thought, culture, customs, goals, etc. The end result is a weak nation. That is exactly what is happening with the US today. Today when the pledge of allegiance is recited everyone sneers. It's stupid, we're not united! It takes a major calamity to even come close to that. Forcing everyone together is unnatural.
Take Germany. A country with tremendous culture, history, and innate intelligence. Their immigration policy is smart and well designed. Their one-ness, their unity, creates strength. *oh my God but the nazis the nazis!!. It has nothing to do with racism or homo-anything. That's how a nation should be run. Germany today is highly productive, runs by law and order, and is protective of its values, culture, intellect, history, sense of self as a nation.
Take China/UAE/Mexico/Brazil/India/etc. They may have issues, but can you seriously call them racist because their immigration policies don't match the US's?
A mixed up culture, like you call it, is richness but to a very superficial and useless degree. You can make everyone learn from other's world, customs, culture, etc etc, but the highest value for a country is unity. Multiculturalism denigrates unity, it devalues ethnic groups' worth, and creates a humanoid society. People that end up not knowing who they really are.
I'm fine with immigration and everyone getting along, sure. It's been our policy for decades. But there will be a spilling point where there will be so much confusion, so much division, so much anger, so many bad laws, that the gears of this country will cease to function.
Obama was supposed to be THE uniter. He turned out to be a huge huge huge divider. There will be no future president that will bring us together. It's impossible.
The root cause of our state of affairs is blind multiculturalism done to the extreme without regard for the benefit of everyone.
