First time heading to Europe, starting with Germany (Frankfurt) as my starting point. I'm just trying to at least get a basic outline of itinerary, for sure I'll be heading to France for a week or so and of course I'll be exploring what I can of Germany for another week or so. Anyone have any suggestions on a third country? I'm trying not to break the bank and I thought about the UK, but I hear it can be pretty pricey....maybe somewhere in Eastern Europe? I've heard good things about the Czech Republic, but at this point I'm open to going almost anywhere.

What kinds of things do you like to see and do? I would suggest Spain but the interior, not the coast. Places like Seville, Grenada and Madrid might be cool if you like art and history.

What's the premise of your holiday? What do you plan to do whilst here, be it nightlife, shopping, sightseeing etc? Also are you going with family or on a solo trip? It would be better to have some more information so you can narrow it down and taylor your experience to exactly what you want.

This is going to be a solo sightseeing trip, I want to take in as much of the sights as I can in 3 weeks as possible. And the Alps do indeed sound nice, I'm going to look into that.

Have you thought about average accommodation costs? If you're not adverse to it, you could check out www.yha.org.uk to get some really cheap accommodation in the UK if you want. The UK isn't that expensive, it's accommodation in Greater London you need to watch out for. Treat London as a separate country, the prices of everyday items there are nothing like the rest of the UK, it is so over inflated. If you do still want to go to London, find accommodation in the "Home Counties" surrounding it. It will be a lot cheaper and only around a 20 minute commute in any direction to get right in the centre by tube.
Try other cities like Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Birmingham is a good choice too.
Try other hotel compassion websites like Hotewire, Secret Escapes, Trivago because the UK shouldn't be that expensive to come to.
What sights are you most wanting to see e.g architecture of cities, specific monuments etc?

So, you booked a flight to "Europe", but you have no clue what to do there. Nice.

My tip: Buy a guide book (e.g. lonely planet.)

This! Or Slovenia, for more of that spectacular Alpine scenery, but at bargain basement prices! Google Lake Bled. There are beautiful hiking trails in the area that cross narrow river gorges. Beautiful views everywhere. Worth a few days' visit.

And south of it is Lake Bohinj (you can make it a day trip from Bled).http://www.slovenia.info/?jezero=1746. (watch the slide show)

In Croatia, there's this beautiful system of lakes created by limestone formations, that's been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Are you driving? If I had three weeks and wanted to see a good bit I would drive for example from Frankfurt down through the Schwarzwald on to Munich-Salzburg- over the Alps to Italy. Lake Como to Tuscany then along the Ligurian coast visiting Cinque Terre back through France then through Belgium and Holland and back to Frankfurt.
