Why do some people in Europe and in the US learn Russian language?

And Spanish is only really that useful in South and Central America. I think it's a toss-up when it comes to usefulness. Russia is a very important trading partner for many European nations. Much more so than any country in Latin America.

Actually Chinese is probably more useful than Russian or Spanish.
