To me it seems that most countries have their own retail chains and even independent supermarkets. At least that is the case everywhere I have lived to far. The bigger chains are not unlike Walmart, though.
Nothing wrong with Asda. And in these austere times cheap suits me fine! Never heard anyone make fun of Asda - Lidl's yeah, Asda no.
Brand food is the same everywhere, but I really dislike Asda's home brand food. Much prefer Sainsbury's or Morrisons myself. M&S and Waitrose are the best in my opinion, but I wouldn't use them to do the big weekly shop - not as much variety as the bigger supermarkets. I do like going there occasionally though. I don't want to sacrifice quality for price.
Lidl isn't too bad, but I've only been in there once. Both Aldi and Lidl seem to have poor reps here for being cheap with bad food, but they're still successful, especially since the recession.
If you want fresh food, you probably get the best stuff at one of those small minority shops, provided you don't feel uncomfortable entering one
I think it makes a difference whether you go to one of those big chains for food or non-food products.
There is also a mentality difference. In some countries like the US people actually like shopping, in others it is considered a necessary evil. The mere word shopping has a negative connotation in some countries.
Sounds like you're brainwashed, how can you call a Country with so much relative poverty, a government ''shutdown'' corruption and equality a superpower it does sound like your bragging because its not the truth that the United States is a superpower.

I dislike the US most of all as a country, but I also dislike my own countries, though for different reasons.
Idk how people can dislike whole countries thats sad to me.
