When Americans will have fought and won a battle like Verdun, then they will be allowed to label anyone as "cowards".
By the way, basing on this way of thinking, we could label young Americans who were unwilling to go to Vietnam as "cowards".
I won't because it's utterly stupid and bravery doesn't belong just to one nation.
By the way, 92.000 French soldiers died between 10 May 1940 and the end of June, it means like 25 % of ALL American casualties during WWII.
Remember,cowards run, don't die.

It's a stupid urban legnd. For one, I wish us the French were more cowardly. Read history books, consistently all along our history we have been terrible warmongers, no better than the British or the Germans.
Today after our invasion of Mali we are making right now some warfare in Centrafrica and wanted to make war to Syria (after having attacked Lybia, sent troops to Afghanistan, bombed Serbia, etc).
We the French are probably among the stupidest war lovers , only smaller than the US, that's all.(and we have our own Green Berets-yes, "trained to kill" (yikes)

I think they are, they only provoke and attack small army or weak countries, they will never go to war on their own, they always need US or Nato help.

The only time they went to war against Vietnam, they got defeated and humiliated in 1954 at Dien Bien Phu,they had to call the americans for help.

Funnily Americans got even more humiliated given their superiority in everything (without considering their "victories" in Irak and Afghanistan).
Plus, US ALWAYS won with allies, WWI? WWII? Korean War?
Just take out war of 1812 (which ended in a draw but with the White House burnt), war with Indians (by the way, remember Little Big Horn? Arrows VS Rifles?) and war with Spain (here again with all possible advantages).
Then? WWI? Wow, an intervention after US,Russia and France had done all the work and then they even claim to have "saved" France, at the same time, their refusal of cancelling loans (like European powers did between themselves) caused the economic ruin of Versailles and then Nazism plus we should add the isolationism of US provoked the rearmament and imperalism of Japan,Germany and Italy.
WWII? Just consider that D-Day occurred in 1944 when Russia were at the gates of Poland, just that.

US never won a war and that's the reason why they call French like this (they are jealous we won more than 600 battles).
US lose all the time:
Long Island, Irak, Viet, Afgha, Syria and so on.

WWI and II are absolutely not thanks to the US. They always wait millions people die and come at the end of the war.

WWII couldn't have been won without the US. Every allies countries were supplied with US food and weapons. USSR couldn't have carried its war effort only by itself. It would certainly have ended like in the WWI, a huge revolution from a starving population.
That being said, the US is not the angel some think. It were dragged into the war by Japan, and then Germany, the US didn't really choose to intervene. Nazi Germany most important trade partner were the US until the beginning of the war, American industries and banks helped a lot - indirectly mostly - to rebuild Germany's army. And many Americans were happy to sell stuff and give loans to everyone - "enemies" included -, expanding their economical influence.
The very successful propaganda which started in the 40's and continued during the cold war, changed the American psyche about the US role in the world. Back in the 30's the US only had its interest in mind, whatever was happening in Europe. I seriously don't blame them. It was a European problem, and most Europeans immigrants left the old continent to the US precisely because of those madness.

Even if the USA war historic is quite short, they did won some wars and lost some others. Same for most countries. France wouldn't be the largest Western European country if it wasn't at least a bit good at war (and diplomacy).

Actually from what I saw here on History forum, ( the facts and figures) they could and they did. They desperately needed the opening of the second front in 1941- 1942, but once they've made it through on their own, the rest didn't make already any significant difference. ( Of course no American help would have meant simply more prolonged war and even higher death toll.)
So I suspect, American landing in Normandy in 1944 took place with a purpose of preventing Soviets from rolling ALL over Europe and gaining too much ground.

( Sorry for the off-top, of course..)
