If the world were flat, about where on Earth would be the present focus of human achievements, aspirations, etc? It seems to me that what used to be in the USA, perhaps around New York, is moving eastwards: and, is now in Western Europe. But the question is: precisely where?

There's the economic center of gravity. Never was in North America, population too small. Did reach the North Atlantic, though so in between North America and Europe for a time.
