The idea of Natsku as an English-Finnish mother just throwing punches made me feel very patriotic. Then dunno what to put here as a homosexual hipster nerd from Leeds joins the club and hits the Central Finnish neo-nazis in the face.
Beautiful.
WHO SAID WE ARE UNFRIENDLY AND CHILLY WHAT? Come here and a get a fistful of chilliness.
I should have phrased my question better. If I had to do it all again I would ask:
Why are the people in Ireland so friendly?
(People would not be saying everywhere how friendly the Irish are if they weren't so friendly in other European Countries. People generally only make comments about groups of people if they are different than the norm.)
You have to define American Friednliness....lot's of giggling and smiles, just like the Sound of Music or Stepford Wifes. No European is friendly according to those standards unless he works in a MacDonalds.
Certain people are incredibly anal regarding the definition of Scandinavia, but to most people, Finland is no different to Sweden, Norway or Denmark. Only language separates them - they are virtually indistinguishable in every other aspect. That might be upsetting to a Scandinavian, but that's the way it is to those of us who don't live there.
Exactly. It is like the Dutch claiming they have nothing in common with the Basques, but to Egyptians, Dutchmen and Basques may as well be the same people.
If you are totally ignorant of the cultural differences, like some British are of the Nordic countries, it really doesn't matter as one's own opinion is more valid than the opinions of the peoples in question. It s called cultural chauvinism, and although the British did not invent it, they are among the world's most avid practitioners. So kudos to you.

Yes, people are generally ignorant of the cultural differences between the Nordic countries, and are not interested in learning. They certainly exist, but to the casual observer, Finland, culturally, politically and economically, is hardly different to Scandinavia (the key differences being language and monarchy). Even people who live there understand this - cultural chauvinism it is not (and I'm not sure how you jumped to that conclusion ).
Case in point - go to Google and search 'Scandinavia'. Google maps includes Finland. Do the same search on Google images - Finland is almost always included, whether it should be or not. It's certainly not the same as someone from Egypt thinking the Netherlands is the same as the Basque Country, and in any case, it isn't really that people think Scandinavia/Nordic region is one country - it's just that people frequently get the Nordic countries confused, because they are so similar.

Among highschool students, possibly. Friendly American adults generally don't giggle. Neither do a lot of highschool students either, but some might.
I was out on Friday. The center of Turdku was pretty peaceful and full of happy people.
Did any of them smile? By 11.00 pm most Finns want to scrap with each other.
