My wife and I have been to southern Spain several times during our most recent assignment in Germany (2008-11) as well as during previous assignments back in the 80s and 90s. When visiting Spain, we spend most of our time in the Andalucia region and have grown to love it there so much that we're seriously considering retiring there. My wife and I are both U.S. citizens and speak Spanish fluently. So we would like to hear from others who have experienced going through the process of relocating and settling in Spain. I know Spain is having some economic issues at this time...and many are struggling with unemployment. I read all the comments in this forum and fully aware about the job situation there. But we won't need a job in Spain. We have managed to live comfortably in the U.S. on my pension alone, so I am certain we will be able to live just as comfortably in Spain. Push comes to shove, I won't mind teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). I have considerable experience teaching ESL in Korea, Thailand...and most recently to new immigrants in northwest Washigton state.
But if I can help it...I'd rather just enjoy living in Spain. Appreciate anyone who would like to share their own knowledge and experience in this matter.

If you're going to live off your pension, then really most of what you need to know, legally, is that you're not allowed to take up economic activity while living on a retirement visa. Visa information
How much would a single person need per month to retire (frugally) in Andalucia?
