Well it's kinda prestigious to be European. Obviousy being a part of Europe improves their self-perception.
Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan are borderline European-Asian countries. So they can choose where to belong.

Good points in all essence.
Georgians, Armenians and Azeris to me are more closely looking to Europeans as well as being Western Asian, they (especially Georgians, Chechens and Armenians) remind me a lot sometimes of Balkan people and some other Eastern Europeans but with a bit more exoticness.
They look also West Asian but still are very Caucasian in features and are obviously not Far Eastern.
Armenians and Georgians are similar culturally to the rest of the Caucasus and to some extent Balkan countries, and certainly more "European" than Islamic countries south of them. This is obvious.
