I was at the ER there now and there were smokers standing outside. Felt like giving them a dirty look.

This is a statement very difficult to disagree with

Was it a public (bar, restaurant) or private space? Actually I live in northern Italy and I have never been to a bar or restaurant allowing indoor smoking since the law banning it came into effect.
And since Italians do have a tendency to bend the rules, I am pretty impressed about how strictly this law is respected.

And I am very happy too, for as a nonsmoker the country is much more livable

no, it was more like a "centro sociale" so I guess rules there are not that important. Let's say it is "semi-private"

I love Italy, but sometimes I get nervous when I see the problem people have for basic things like:

- waiting in line
- using sidelights on cars (you always have to guess where the car before you is going to turn, it's pretty dangerous in circles)
- driving on the right lane on the highway ( I thought it was forbidden for a while since no one did it)

Also, I don't get it:

In buses, sitting on the corridor side while letting the window side empty and not leaving you any space if you have just entered. You actually have to push people to take a seat. Otherwise, people completely ignore you.

Being able to hear people's complete conversations on the phone, word for word, even if they are 50m from you is funny.

But I was in Greece once, and all those things were much worse.

LOL, exactly the same things here. Ok, if you say something, people shift, but I find it annoying.
